I’m a Sasha, and I have no idea what that is exactly, but that’s what I am. That’s the name my granddaughter gave me when she started calling me something other than gibberish and we could put actual sounds to it. Hey, it’s better than granny, nana or memaw so I’ll be a Sasha any day. You can’t be a Sasha, that’s just the way it is.
So, there’s me (Sasha), the Tater (a 8-year-old terror brat princess blessing) and Mac (my hubby). Mac and I are raising the Tater and lemme tell you ~ that wasn’t in the plans, but we’re making it work.
Yep, I’m a grandmother ~ I know, hard to believe. But it’s true. I’m not exactly the grandmotherly type. Heck, I’m not sure I’m the mother type. Yes, of course Tater has birth parents, we’re just not going to talk about them here.
I write this blog because I have a real life that requires me to be calm, social, somewhat normal and rational.
Since I’m really none of those things and it takes all my willpower, strength and social upbringing to pull this real life off, I needed a place to cuss, throw sarcasm around and tell you what I really think.
Now I think I’ll have another margarita. And Lipstick….ah, my vice is Lipstick (well, AFTER the tequila and rum of course). I love lipstick! You know that stupid game people play where they ask “if you were stuck on an island, what’s 2 things you’d want with you?” and people always say A Boat (duh!) and some person they think they can’t live without?
Yeah ~ I always say lipstick and rum. Actually, my friends answer for me because they know that’s always the answer.
Hairspray? Well, I AM from the South and we gotta have some hairspray for all these fancy ‘do’s.
So, Lipstick, Margaritas and Hairspray was born ~ stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. I probably won’t answer the door, but keep knocking. I like to laugh at you from the living room.
I’m glad I am not the only grandmother raising grandchildren. My oldest is now 20, and I wouldn’t change a thing!

girl, you are the bomb!!! My grandmotherly name is G-Maw. Not exactly sure how in the world my first born grandson got G-Maw from grandma. But it stuck, and now I have grandson’s calling me G-Maw. One thing for sure, probably won’t be another one. I’m with you on not being the “typical” grandmother. But hey, someone has to do it. Might as well be us. RIGHT?

hey sasha! i’m bubbe to three beautiful grandchildren (taylor15, jackson 5, and ozzy 3 months) when taylor was born i still had one of my grandmothers here on earth so she had me, a great and a great-great grandmother AND my ex’s parents/family AND my daughter-in-law’s parents (also divorced) and grandparents so there were already several grandma’s, nana’s and memere’s… but i’m the only bubbe they have! i’m also the “queen of everything” and taylor is the “princess of quite a lot” and jackson & ozzy are the “prince’s of whatever’s left”! having two sons, taylor is the daughter i didn’t have (a total mini me) and i have taught, and continue to teach, her all of the important lessons (face on, including lipstick. hair sprayed! glitter sprinkled. attitude/presence palpable) she is a force! we’re yankees but can “bless her heart” with the best of the southern belle’s! i am so happy to have found you ~ and share you with her ~ you are a wonder, a blessing and a gem (do you have a preference? diamond, ruby, emerald etc) with a grateful heart…

Loved your beautifull article about your mom. It was very emotional to me and I simply could not respond to you on FB.
You wrote about already losing your mother to Alzheimer. It hurt badly. I still have my mom but lost her to the effects of a stroke. She is still with us, and for that I am eternal gratefull, but she is not the mom she used to be. Our roles are now reversed and I guess you’re never ready for that. To see the decay of someone you love so much is heartbreaking and even after almost 4 years I still haven’t found a way of coming to terms with that. I lost my father in the process too. As her main caregiver, he is not the carefree, funloving Renaisance man he used to be.
Thank you for sharing your moving story. I hope I will have the courage some day.
Wishing you all the best, and strenght to you and your loved ones.
Lots of love and hugs from Holland,
Jannet

Hi Sasha, I enjoy reading your status’s on FB. Today is my first of reading one of your blog’s. Which I enjoyed I might add.. Breaking a foot (or any bone) is definitely worth a cuss. I walked around on a broke foot for three.weeks before I went to the dr. Didn’t know it was broke. Then ended up having surgery and having a pin put in. Anyway had to pretty my cast up as well. Made flowers out of beads and blings . I even put a patch. I do believe yours was prettie
I’m also a grandma of 9 with 1 more on its way. Two of them live with me as well as their mother. They call her mommy and. I get called mom. The other’s call me grandma. I never thought there would be a day that I love to hear ” grandma”. But now ,its LIke music to my ears. Its hard having them around all the time ( cause I don’t handle it as well as I used too). But it is what it is and I do love being a grandma. Keep up the good work , putting smiles on faces. I’m sure it will all come back to you with the same good stuff. Keep it real !!! Bless you!!!
