11 Tidbits You Can’t Live Without Knowing….

I’ve seen so many posts on my personal page with a number and things I didn’t know about my friends.

And they’re right…I had no idea about most of those things.  Some I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to erase from my mind’s eye, so thanks ya’ll.

Now, no one has really given me a number (or if they did, I already forgot), but I thought I’d write mine in a blog post and share with ALL of ya’ll…..scary, huh?

Journal_Listof101

So, here ya go….and since I may or may not have had a number, I went with 11 ~ yeah, I’m such a rebel.

  1. I am 50 years old and, unlike so many people who feel 30 years younger, I feel every damn day of 50.  Some days I feel about 86.
  2. I won 3rd place in a talent contest when I was 8.  I sang and played “Greensleeves” on the piano.  I sucked.  Which means the other kids either sucked much worse or it was fixed.  I really hope the other kids sucked more.
  3. I have moved 30 times.  If I move again, I’m selling the house with all my crap included.  It’ll be marketed as “vintage, eclectic belongings of a woman who has a warped sense of humor, loves pink and isn’t a clean freak”.
  4. In another life, I worked in ‘corporate America’, had an office and wore heels and hose.   I was confused about what really mattered in my life.
  5. I’d rather hang out on the couch and watch TV, read a book or write than be outside doing anything.  Maybe I’ll go outside, walk to my car, and drive to a quaint little café with outdoor seating where I can sit outside and read a book, write or chat.  Of course, I’ll have to drive for about 2 hours to find that little café….
  6. I didn’t start drinking alcohol until I was 40.  I’ve been trying to make up for those lost years ever since.  So far, I’m doing pretty good.
  7. My hair has been brown, red, purple, mousy, and striped.  I’ve never had as many compliments on my hair as I’ve had since I decided to stop coloring it and letting the natural gray be my color.  I’ve also gotten many more senior discounts but hey, whatever.
  8. I have big feet.  And big boobs.  And big hair.  Wait! I see a pattern!!  THAT must be why I have big….everything.  THANK GAWD I figured that out ~ whew.
  9. I collected Unicorns until I was 16.  Now, every time I see or hear someone say something about unicorns I have a flashback to the bookcase in my room full of porcelain, plastic, glass and macramé (yeah, that was a strange one) dust collectors.
  10. I am an only child, but have a cousin that I’ve known for more than 40 years that is the only person who knows all my secrets.  She’s smarter than I am and that’s ok.  I’m taller.
  11. I  have always wanted to be an actress, but after one high school turn on “Harvey”, I decided writing was more my style.  The world of TV thanks me.

Thanks for reading my blog ~ if you want to leave a comment, I promise I’ll read it and respond because I LOVE comments.  And if you really love it, share it with your friends and have a margarita while you’re reading the blog out loud.  At the bar.  With other people near by.  It’s even FUNNIER then!  🙂 Cheers!

  1. I found your Facebook site and then your website. I love your humor and even though I am not a southern girl, I believe I could be your kindred spirit out west!
I still have a corporate job that requires heels and stockings but I am most comfortable in jeans and flipflops! I yearn to be a grandma but it’s not my time yet so I live vicariously through my friends. I bleach my hair and love a good martini and I believe I will still be that way when I’m 87!

  3. I just read the other replies and thought wow what a small world we all really do live in, maybe its the age thing we can all relate to I’m 56 this August and just retired from a really small Sheriff Dept in Ky and I was the only female so ya’ll know I can tell some tales 🙂 On top of being the only Female I am 6’2 and just like some other person with the initials of Sasha I have big feet, big boobs and tons of Big Hair. Sasha I might have ya beat on the moving thing… Mr. Hubs was military for 28 yrs. I have a son who is currently a Ranger with the US Army…. You would think he had learned his lesson but ummm nope he was not my bright child 🙂 He wanted to out do mom and dad with his military career… My precious not so bright child… you can’t out do your momma lol He is 6’5 so to my last breath it will bug me that I have to look up to him lol
I’m with Robin on the barn needing painting every once in a while, mine is bleached blonde and enough for 4 people to have a head full. Peroxide 30 and I’m a happy gurl .
I’m afraid to say I have not found the Joy’s of Glitter but hey I don’t have to put that uniform on and carry my weapon any longer so there may be glitter yet in my future. Thanks for all you do, and your honesty in your blog and just being you sounds like an awesome experience !

Thanks so much for hanging out and writing, and girl ~! there’s hope for you and glitter, yet!! Cheers 🙂

  4. Love your blog. I can totally relate on the age thing. I’m 58 and totally feel at least 78. I too had a secretary job where I was supposed to wear a dress or skirt and hose. I hated every day of it. Downgraded to a clerical job where I could wear pants or capris. Loved the new job; hated losing the $$. Hate outdoors. Love to drink. My hair has been red, once, with a home permanent which my sister and nieces enjoyed providing. Luckily, I still can’t see any gray but am told there is some. I’m not going to waste $$ on a fake color. I’ve been thru hell and back and I might as well look like it. I have 3 siblings but the youngest of them is 8 years older than me so I feel like I was an only child and I loved it. The only bad thing is I was so young when my parents died compared to my siblings and to when my friends lost their folks. I miss them so much and wished I had paid more attention to what they said cuz they were very wise.

    • Vicki ~ I am sooo glad I don’t have to wear ‘real’ clothes every day ~ ha! I just don’t think I could do it! And yep, red was my favorite color of choice, but now that it’s ‘silver’ I’m ok with it. And here’s to you for all you’ve been thru ~ hope your holiday is fabulous ~ cheers 😀

  5. I love your blogs and posts. I am 55 and can so relate to a lot of the stuff. I have a 20 year old daughter who is now living in the “big city” and an 18 year old mentally challenged son who’s job is as he puts it “is to bug his mom”. I’m an “indoor” person too….reading and cross stitching are my escape-tho I have discovered my eyes aren’t what they use to be. For that matter, neither is the rest of me-LOL. Thanks for all the great stuff.

And you brought back great memories..I used to cross-stitch, too…lots and lots of cross stitching! But my eyes ain’t what they used to be, either….and nope, the rest of me isn’ as well! Cheers !!

  6. I love reading your posts on fb. That’s not completely true. I look forward to them! 🙂 I know this may be too personal a question but I’m wondering where Tater’s parents are? It takes all kinds to make a family, I know. I’m currently raising my sister’s two daughters, 15 & 12. My sister passed away in Oct. 2012 and her husband passed away almost 6 years ago. I’ve never had kids of my own but have been taking care of these girls for almost 7 years so even though I didn’t give birth to them, they’re every bit “mine” as much as they were my sister’s. 🙂 Tater seems like a hoot and you’re all blessed to have each other. Sorry if my question was too nosey!

    • Becky ~ Thanks so much for letting me know and writing to me! And those 2 girls are so very Blessed you are raising them ~ how sad but wonderful, too. And yes, Tater is something else 😀 I don’t share the details of why Tater is with us, but I’ll say this….it has been more than we ever imagined ~ more joy, more laughs, more fun and more stress 😉 but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Thanks for asking, cause you never know til you do! Cheers 😀

  12. If I didn’t know better I would have thought I had written that…all except the hair. As long as there is color in a box I will not be gray. A had an older woman tell me (when I was in my 20s) “every barn needs a new coat of paint every once in a while” so I will keep my hair brown with faint highlights! Love reading everything you write!

    • Robin ~ I LOVE that….every barn needs a new coat of paint…I can use that for lots of things, not just hair – ha! So, we’re the same person huh….cool!
